when: July 3 - July 13, 2014(annual)
where: Grahamstown

A mixed public of amateurs and collectors flock to Es Saadi's palace during the recently launched Marrakech Art Fair to browse contemporary collections from Europe and the Arab world. A golf competition between art market players concludes the event.

In 2011, galleries from Italy, Spain, GFrance, the USA and many other countries present works by internationally renowned artists.

Since its inception in 1974, the National Arts Festival has helped shape South Africa's arts scene. Held in Grahamstown in the Eastern Cape, it welcomes a great variety of performers presenting drama, dance, opera, exhibitions, films, cabaret and plenty more.

While the main festival offers the best in local artists and performers, a vibrant Fringe Festival focuses on the new and up-and-coming. There's also a Winter School, which offers additional information on the programmes, including panel discussions, lectures, poetry and book readings and pre- and post-show talks, while the National Festival of Student Drama presents new plays in any language spoken in South Africa.

The festival not only generates artistic excellence and interest, but also has a major economic impact on the area around Grahamstown. Following a teaser announcement each year in March, the full festival details are announced in April. Keep an eye on the National Arts Festival website for the latest news.
